What it involves
Metoidioplasty builds a neophallus from the clitoris, which enlarges by several centimetres with testosterone. The surgery releases its suspensory ligaments and lengthens it, giving it the position and appearance of a small penis, fully functional in sensation and with natural erections.
It is the less invasive alternative to phalloplasty: a single main operation, no flaps or donor-site scars, and a shorter recovery. The resulting size (usually 4-8 cm) does not normally allow penetration, which should be weighed with realistic expectations.
