Laparoscopic gynaecology
What it involves
Total hysterectomy with adnexectomy removes the uterus, cervix and, if desired, the tubes and ovaries. In a masculinization process it permanently ends menstruation, removes organs that cause discomfort and avoids future gynaecological screening of those organs.
We perform it laparoscopically: three or four incisions under one centimetre, less pain, a short stay and a much faster recovery than open surgery. It is also a necessary prior step if you later wish to have a phalloplasty or metoidioplasty with vaginectomy.
How is laparoscopic hysterectomy performed?
The operation takes 1 to 2 hours under general anaesthesia.
